Nature (Physis)

In Aristotle, the internal principle of change and rest in things that exist by nature. Nature is contrasted with "art" or "artifact," which have their principle of creation outside of themselves.

Teleology

The study of ends, purposes, or goals (telos). The metaphysical view that natural processes are directed towards a final cause (e.g., the acorn grows in order to become an oak).
